Mayor Bloomberg Keynotes Business Leaders Breakfast at St. John’s University

Queens, NY - New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg delivered the keynote address as part of the 9th Anniversary Celebration of the Jamaica Business Resource Center in recognition of JBRC's contributions to the economic development of the city and state of New York. Breakfast was followed by a brief awards ceremony for supporters of the Jamaica Business Resource Center.

Mayor Bloomberg spoke of the need to continue to invest in the economic growth and vitality of New York City, by concentrating on creating jobs and educational opportunities. Heralding the already impressive economic gains of the last few years, Mayor Bloomberg emphasized that New York needs to continue to execute strategies that foster growth rather than just talk about them. 

Two awards were presented as part of the program and the recipients are pictured here with Timothy H. Marshall (center) of the Jamaica Business Resource Center:

  • The Private Sector Partner Award was presented to St. John's University; Dr. Tony Bonaparte, Special Assistant to the University President, accepting (left).
  • The Public Sector Partner Award was presented to the New York State Dormitory Authority; Mr. Emory Jackson, Director of Opportunity Programs accepting (right).

Also in attendance were U. S. Congressman Gregory Meeks; New York City Comptroller William Thompson, Jr.; Queens Borough President Helen Marshall; Reverend Dr. Floyd H. Flake; New York State Senator Ada Smith; New York State Senator Malcolm Smith; New York State Senator Carl Andrews; New York State Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson; New York State Assemblywoman Vivian Cook; New York State Assemblywoman Barbara Clark; New York State Assemblyman William Scarborough; New York City Councilman Leroy Comrie; Mr. William Goldstein, President, New York City School Construction Authority; and Mr. Heyward Davenport, Regional Director, U.S. Department of Commerce, MBDA.
