The St. John’s University community will join together
with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and Locks of Love to raise
awareness for the fight against childhood cancer on Thursday, March
15 on both the Staten Island and Queens campuses. At both events,
volunteers will be shaving their heads or donating their hair to
make wigs for individuals battling cancer.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation founder John Bender and St. John’s
alum ‘87CBA, is expected to attend the Queens campus event and
DiRosa Haircrafters of Franklin Square, NY and Deluxe Barbers of
Jamaica, NY will, for the third time, be on hand to offer their
time and talent to those participating in the event.
On Staten Island,St. John’s alumna Denise Arango-Schiera, who
owns and manages Great Clips Hair Salons, will be donating her
business’ services to make over those volunteers who will be
cutting off approximately ten inches f their hair for Locks of Love
or those shaving their heads for St. Baldrick’s.
This year’s St. Baldrick’s event will see several of the
University’s Athletics coaches, faculty members, administrators and
students going bald in solidarity with those who suffer with
cancer and is expected to be bigger and better than last year’s
with nearly $14,000 being raised by this year’s participants
already.

are asked to raise money for childhood cancer research through the
St. Baldrick’s Foundation prior to the event by visiting www.stbaldricks.org and
registering at St. John’s University, Staten Island or Queens
campus.
