Holiday of Sukkot
is a Jewish Holiday that takes place in the Fall. Jews all across
the globe build huts and eat their meals in a hut. The walls of the
succah are made of all different types of material however the
cover-roof is always somewhat open to the sky and is from a natural
product like bamboo. Succot is a seven day holiday.
"You shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are citizens of
Israel shall dwell in booths"
The Sukkah (hut) reminds us how, when the Jewish people
left Egypt they dwelled in huts,
Philosophical view of the Succah:
The Holiday of Sukkot is referred to in the bible as
"The holiday of Joy" the concept may be
that we may leave our "permanent" homes, but when we enter the
sukkah we enter an abode that is protected by God directly, and all
the illusions of our man-made edifices, which bring so many of us
comfort - or angst when they are threatened - are placed aside and
put into perspective. We focus on that which really brings
stability in our lives: God.
