Barbara Winslow, “Be a Catalyst for
Change: Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Shirley Chisholm's
historic (and audacious) bid for the Democratic presidential
nomination”.
The year 2012 marks the 40th anniversary of
Shirley Chisholm's campaign to win the Democratic Party nomination
for the presidency of the United States. Chisholm, the first
African American woman elected to Congress was an outspoken
feminist, anti racist, champion of public education and health
care. Winslow will not only talk about Chisholm's record of social
justice activism, but how the creation of the Shirley Chisholm
Project of Brooklyn Women's Activism is bringing back Chisholm's
legacy for the next generation.
