Campus Ministry - ESL Fifth Ave Committee - Queens Campus

September 13, 2012 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Marillac Hall, Rm. 239, Queens Campus

With funding from the New York State Education Department, Fifth Avenue Committee has added After-School/Family Literacy programs at local elementary schools where children and parents work together on projects. The goal is to give parents the opportunity to become active participants in their children’s education. School principals applaud our programs which bring parents into the schools to learn with their children. St. John’s Students will put into practice their college experience by helping the parents understand their kid’s homework, as well as engaging in English conversation with the adults who need to practice English as a second language. Professors will provide material to work on. Through this service, the students will connect with the immigrant community and help them improve their English speaking skill.
