Associate Dean Steve Kuntz
Dr. Steven Kuntz is the Associate Dean for
The School of Education on the Staten Island campus with
responsibility for undergraduate and graduate programs, academic
affairs, marketing and enrollment management. He has assumed
responsibility for the development of the School’s nascent programs
on the Manhattan campus and divides his time between the Queens,
Manhattan and Staten Island campuses.
Steve Kuntz holds a
Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from New York University,
an M.B.A. from Bernard Baruch College (CUNY) in Marketing
Management and a B.A. from the State University of New York at New
Paltz where he graduated with a degree in Teacher
Education.
As the Associate
Dean, Steve devotes much of his energy to fulfilling Fr.
Harrington’s vision for the Staten Island campus (and now
Manhattan) as the Jewel of
St. John’s University. To this end, he and his team have
brought several initiatives to this campus including the annual
Education Forums, the Digital Literacy’s Summer Institute, the
Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society, Leaders in Education Award
Dinners, COACH events, and a Faculty Film Series, all of which help
deliver The School of Education experience in its own unique
way.
As a former
schoolteacher and administrator, he has authored or co-authored
close to $600,000 in grants and written numerous articles on
college decision-making, earning him recognition by the Association
for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) and the American Education
Research Association (AERA). He has conducted workshops and
presentations to educational organizations across the country and
has spoken before Board’s of Education as far away as Kyoto, Japan.
Actively involved in the community, Steve has served as a
consultant to the Marlboro Board of Education, curriculum developer
for the New York City Department of Education, a member of the
Community School District 31 Curriculum Committee on Staten Island
and as a coach in various recreational programs.
