Hadia Sheerazi ’10 C

St. John's College of Liberal
Arts and Sciences
Class of 2009-2010
Government and Politics major

Hadia Sheerazi’C10, who graduated from St. John’s University with a double major in government and politics and economics, has acquired a resume that will enable her to make her mark wherever she goes. She leaves St. John’s with an impressive academic and leadership record and a strong commitment to the University’s Vincentian Catholic and metropolitan mission.

Inducted into the President’s Society — the University’s most prestigious honor — Hadia participated in the renowned Ronald H. Brown Pre-Law Summer Prep Program, the Future Alumni Association, the Mock Trial Team where she served as President and the Institute for Writing Studies. None of this prevented her from maintaining an overall 3.94 GPA.

She credits her successes to the “amazing support” she received from the faculty, administration and Campus Ministry. “I’ve excelled here because everyone wanted me to,” she said. “I had the best cheerleaders in the world. They invested in me from the very beginning when I was awarded a full scholarship.”

Her many distinctions at St. John’s include receiving the Northeast Writing Center Association Scholarship, being appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Honors Program’s research journal and being tapped as Head Skull by St. John’s College’s oldest honor organization, the   Skull and Circle Honor Society. In addition, Hadia secured a much-coveted legal externship at Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s office.

As a Muslim, Hadia added, “I blended in without having to sacrifice my identity or my faith because of the University’s religious and cultural diversity.” This atmosphere enabled her to evolve spiritually as well as academically. In learning about the plight of an elderly, impoverished client of the Law School’s Elder Law Clinic, whose savings were taken by a neighbor, she decided she wanted to help those who cannot help themselves and be an advocate for the marginalized.”

Hadia takes this Vincentian legacy with her as she journeys through life.
