Online Learning: A New Name, More Ways for You to Earn Your Degree

January 17, 2013

Welcome to Online Learning at St. John’s. As you may know, the University used to refer to the division as Distance Learning. The new name expresses all the opportunities an online education offers for connecting with the outstanding faculty, students and resources of a leading Catholic university.

“The term ‘distance’ does not convey the full nature of the online learning experience we offer,” said Jeffery Olson, J.D., Ph.D., Associate Provost and Director of Online Learning and Services.

“Online learning,” he explained, “is not about being distant — it’s about staying connected with your education while enjoying the flexibility to meet your other responsibilities. As an online student, you have access to the vibrant academic community and services that distinguish the St. John’s experience.”

Those services, Dr. Olson added, include personal advisement for academics, career advancement, financial aid and registration. Online students also have access to St. John’s 1.7 million-volume Library as well as scholarly publications at universities and organizations around the world.

The name change comes at a time of continuing growth in Online Learning at St. John’s. Students may choose from six online undergraduate degree programs. In addition, there are 21 graduate programs leading to master’s degrees or professional certificates. Since 2007, online enrollment has grown by 185 percent, while the number of online courses in all fields has risen by 141 percent.

Students have more options than ever for earning a respected graduate or undergraduate degree in a way that meets their needs and schedule. Find out more about Online Learning at St. John’s:
