Requirements
For the Staten Island Campus chapter of Psi Chi National Honor Society,
one must first meet the following criteria:

Undergraduate Students

  • Have completed at least 3 semesters of college courses at St. John’s University (If you are a transfer student you do not need to meet this requirement)
  • Be enrolled as a major or minor in a psychology program or a program
    psychological in nature that is equivalent to a psychology major
  • Have completed at least 9 credits in psychology courses
  • Have an overall GPA of at least 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) in cumulative grades
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) in psychology courses

Graduate Students

  • Registration for major or minor standing in psychology (or for a program
    psychological in nature)
  • A minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in all graduate courses
  • Faculty advisors:
  • Full-time faculty at St. John’s University
  • Holds a doctoral degree in psychology or a psychology-related field

Apply
If you have met the above criteria, then you may apply to become a member by filling out an application form and submitting it to the Staten Island Psi Chi chapter faculty advisors located on the 3rd floor of DaSilva Academic Center. Psi Chi’s faculty advisors and officers review the application and determine whether or not all criteria have been met. The applicant will receive notice of acceptance or dismissal. If accepted, you must pay the lifetime membership fee of $50.  Students and faculty are elected to membership by the chapter at the institution, according to the provisions in the national Psi Chi Constitution. Any chapter, at its discretion, may establish higher academic standards for eligibility, but may not require service standards for eligibility.  Membership in Psi Chi is open to qualified candidates of any age, sex, sexual orientation, race, handicap or disability, color, religion, and national and ethnic origin.
