Dr. Neil D. Jespersen Elected
2013 Fellow of the American Chemical Society
Dr. Neil D. Jespersen, Professor of Chemistry, was one of 96
distinguished chemists who were elected a Fellow of the American
Chemical Society. Begun in 2008, the Fellows Program honors
ACS members who have made significant contributions to the sciences
and provided excellent service to the ACS community.
Jespersen, a former Chair of the Department of Chemistry, has been
a leader in innovation at St. John's. He developed the combined
B.S./M.S. in Chemistry degree with courses incorporating
digital technology. In addition, Jespersen has
mentored many research students.
Neil Jespersen has also received University and ACS awards
for teaching and research. Dr. Jespersen's commitment to the
ACS is evident with his numerous activities including having served
on the ACS Board of Directors and chaired the Committee on
Committees, the New York Local Section (Councilor for 22 years),
the Nichols Medal Award Jury, and the Long Island Subsection.
