The Office of Conference Services summer season is quickly
coming to the end. We will soon join with Facilities, Residence
Life and the entire University in preparations to welcome St.
John’s University’s new and returning students.
Yet the summer season’s activities continue to energize the St.
John’s campus. Guests from across the nation and around the world
will continue to enjoy our hospitality and share our facilities
through mid-August. As promised, Conference Services is delighted
to update you about our visitors.
Through mid-August, international students will continue to stay
on the Queens and Manhattan campuses, learning “American English”
and touring New York City. They represent China, Italy, Spain and
Thailand. Conference Services is working with the University’s
Language Connection to bring an even more diverse group of students
to campus next year.
The
Queens campus also will host 230 high school students on August 4 –
11 for the final session of Envision EMI’s Global Youth Leadership
Program. On July 31, Envision’s Medicine Program concluded its
second session, which introduced high school students to the
medical profession through events including two “live” knee
replacement surgeries, shown with the support of St. John’s Office
of Information Technology. Conference Services and Envision’s
management team are discussing a return to campus next year.
For the week of August 6, Conference Service will host
approximately 600 guests on the Queens campus, 250 visitors on the
Oakdale campus and 100 at Manhattan. These guests come to St.
John’s through the Cultural Care Au Pair program, Envision EMI, the
Fulbright Program, Euro Master Studio and Language Study
Centers.
On July 28, Teach for America concluded its 2012 program at St.
John’s. Many of their core members thanked Conference Services for
the “smoothness of operations” and the hospitality of the St.
John’s community. The organization will be back in 2013.
Conference Services is gratified by the positive “close-out”
reports by all our guests, who especially praised St. John’s
students for their professionalism and customer service skills. Our
students provide essential support for Conference Service’s summer
programs, along with Public Safety, Campus Dining Services,
Information Technology and Facilities.
Our efforts succeed only due to the support of our dedicated staff
and partners throughout the University. We thank the entire St.
John’s community for the hospitality and support offered our summer
guests. Conference Services will continue to update you throughout
the summer.
