Minors

Various departments offer programs leading to minor concentrations in their disciplines. Minors are not required for graduation but may be chosen by students as ways to organize their core requirements and general electives. The following guidelines for minors were determined by the Liberal Arts Faculty Council:

  • Students may choose any available minor program which is clearly differentiated from their major area of concentration.
  • Students may elect a minor after the completion of one semester of college.
  • Students must have the written permission of the Dean and of the department offering the minor.
  • Only one three-credit course may be used for both a major and minor provided that the minor sequence has at least 18 credits. For minors with fewer than eighteen credits, no overlap is possible.
  • The Pass/Fail option is not available in the fulfillment of minor requirements.
  • Students should schedule an interview at least once a year with their minor advisor.
  • Successful completion of a minor (with a minimum index of 2.0) will be noted on students’ transcripts.
