Suboptimal medication use is common among the elderly and has
been associated with increased health care costs and poor clinical
outcomes. Older patients are more likely to experience
adverse drug events due to their fragility and altered
pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic parameters.
Dr. Lam has a deep interest in identifying, resolving and
preventing drug-related problems among the elderly through active
interactions with other health-care professionals and the
patients. She is also interested in conducting research
related to clinical pharmacology and in promoting the use of safe,
efficacious and cost-effective medications.
