St. John’s Helps Pharmacy Alum Become
Well-Rounded Professional
St. John’s graduate, Maria Fatima Torres ‘09P gained the academic
and extracurricular experiences in pharmacy and service that make
her the confident and caring health professional she is today.
“The pharmacy program provided me with the knowledge that I
needed to become a credible and responsible healthcare
practitioner,” said Maria. “Small classes, personalized instruction
and the University’s Vincentian dedication to helping the
underserved all prepared me to be able to work with patients in
different kinds of settings.”
Maria’s many leadership roles at St. John’s supplemented this
preparation by helping her develop the social skills to be
comfortable with patients in all walks of life and from diverse
cultures.
As a Student Ambassador and Parent Orientation Leader, Maria
talked to prospective students and their families, while assuming
additional leadership roles with the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society
and the Pharmacy Leadership Society further broadened her.
“It is through these opportunities that I learned more about
myself,” she said.
Above all, St. John’s showed Maria the growth benefits of “being
focused on her career as well as being sure to take advantage of
once-in–a lifetime opportunities,” she said. “My goal was to become
a well-rounded healthcare professional.”
