Core Curriculum
This baccalaureate degree utilizes the University's Common and Distributed Core Curriculum for satisfying 48 credits of the degree.

Major Area Requirements
36 semester hours of courses in computer science (CUS)

  • Software Applications
  • Spreadsheet and Database
  • Presentation Graphics
  • Desktop Publishing
  • Structured Programming Techniques
  • Introduction to Data Structures

3 credits selected from the following:

  • Unix Operating System
  • Survey of Languages
  • Event-Driven Programming
  • Java and World Wide Web Applications

3 credits selected from the following:

  • Computer Architecture
  • Database Management Systems
  • Software Engineering
  • Systems Analysis

3 credits selected from the following:

  • Distributed Operating Systems
  • HTML and Java Script
  • Data Communications

9 additional credits in computer science, 6 of these must be selected from CUS 1144 or higher numbered courses. 

Specialized Area Requirements
21 semester hours from courses in art (ART)

  • Introduction to Graphic Design I
  • Introduction to Graphic Design II
  • Typography
  • Publication and Editorial Design
  • History of Visual Communication

6 credits selected from the following:

  • Graphic Production
  • Computer Graphics
  • Advanced Computer Graphics

Free Electives
6 credits selected from the courses offered through any of the undergraduate units of St. John's University. 

Students completing this program will have a minor in graphic design as well as a major in information technology.

A second language (6 credits) may be substituted for these courses.
