Peter J. Tobin College of Business students from the St. John’s
Alpha Iota chapter of the Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS) placed third out
of 40 active chapters at this year’s 40th Annual Gamma
Iota Sigma International Conference hosted in Columbus, Ohio from
October 13-October 15, 2011.
A dozen members of the Chapter’s Executive
Board, School of Risk Management alumni and Melodee Harper-Fields,
the chapter advisor, were in attendance to proudly collect a total
of 10 awards including Chapter, Black and Gold and Special
Achievement Awards. Samuel Matthews, current chapter president, was
honored with individual recognition for his involvement in the
field of Actuarial Science.
Over the past four years the Alpha Iota
chapter has been commended by GIS for their outstanding commitment
Gamma Iota Sigma, an international collegiate
professional fraternity for students pursuing careers in risk
management, insurance and actuarial science, encourages its members
to embody the organization’s values of friendship, knowledge,
integrity and fidelity.
