In response to the special needs and commitments of working adults, St. John's University offers a wide selection of degree programs during evening and weekend hours. Classes are arranged for working students' convenience. An evening student at Queens, for example, can schedule classes that meet twice a week at 6:00 p.m. or 7:35 p.m. – even 9:10 p.m. – for a total of three credit hours weekly for each class. Another possibility might be to schedule a three-hour class that meets once a week. Weekend classes at Queens meet on Fridays at 6:15 p.m. or on Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. or 12:45 p.m. It is possible to earn nine credits each semester by attending Weekend College. The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, as well as the Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees, are offered in the evening and on weekends in most major areas. Please see the description under each major for the sessions in which the major is offered. A bachelor's degree requires completion of 126-127 credits. These credits provide a broad liberal arts education and a specialized major concentration. An associate degree requires completion of 60-62 credits. These credits are the equivalent of approximately half the requirements for a bachelor degree. Associate degree recipients can have all of their credits transferred into the bachelor sequence if they continue study in the same field or in one that is closely related. For those majoring in Funeral Service Administration, the professional courses are only offered in the day session in cooperation with the American Academy McAllister Institute (AAMI) in Manhattan.
