Mikael C. Bergbrant, Ph.D.

Mikael C. Bergbrant, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Economics and Finance, has as his main research interests the areas of asset pricing and market efficiency. Even though most of his work to date has focused on the domestic U.S. markets, he is increasingly shifting his focus to international markets. He has taught classes in Finance — ranging from Investments and Corporate Finance to Research Methods and Money and Banking. He received his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of South Florida and holds M.B.A. and M.S.F. degrees.



Jason P. Berkowitz, Ph.D.

Jason P. Berkowitz, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Economics and Finance, has prior finance work experience as a controller for Aramark in their Sports & Entertainment Division at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles. He was also Director of Finance for the Wilmington Blue Rocks, a Class A Advanced affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. His present research is in investments, real estate and behavioral finance, with recent work focused on the unique opportunities in using sports data to investigate financial problems. He earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, and a B.B.A. and M.S.F. from The George Washington University.



David Chan, CPA, Ph.D.

David Chan, CPA, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the Department of Accounting and Taxation, has worked as an auditor at a public accounting firm and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York. His research interests include audit quality, earnings quality, continuous auditing and the application of technology in accounting and auditing. He earned his Ph.D. in Management with a concentration in Accounting Information Systems from Rutgers University, an M.S. in Accounting and a B.S. in Finance from St. John's University.


   

Cynthia Phillips, Ed.D.

Cynthia Phillips, Ed.D., Assistant Professor, Accounting and Taxation, earned her Ed.D. from St. John's University in 2010. She also holds a B.B.A. in Accounting and an M.B.A. in Finance. Dr. Phillips has worked in management accounting and internal audit in the financial services industry and currently serves as an Associate Dean in the Tobin College of Business. Her research interests are in the costs of higher education and the link between governance and fiscal outcomes.

 

 

Petrina DiGangi, M.B.A.

Petrina DiGangi joins St. John's as an Instructor in the Department of Marketing. Professor DiGangi earned her B.B.A. from Iona College and her M.B.A. from St. John's University. She has worked in the private, not-for-profit and public sectors in various management positions. Professor DiGangi is an active member of the Tobin College Alumni Association Board of Directors.


George Maggiore, M.B.A.   

George Maggiore joins St. John’s as an Instructor in the Department of Marketing. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Marketing at St. John's University since 1984. He received his B.B.A. in Marketing from Bernard M. Baruch College and an M.B.A. in Marketing Management from St. John’s University. His research interest is in the area of Consumer Behavior. During his thirty-five year corporate business career in Marketing Management and Marketing Research, he has directed research that has helped create the marketing strategy and tactics for The Nestle Company, JC Penney Company, Nabisco Company and National Grid. His most recent position was Global, Customer and Marketing Research Director for National Grid; the third largest investor owned Utility in the world.



David M. Pooser, Ph.D.

David M. Pooser, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, School of Risk Management, earned his Ph.D. at Florida State University. In 2011, he was a visiting scholar at Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Germany, and taught a seminar in catastrophe research. He has research experience with natural catastrophes and enterprise risk management.



Kevin Sun, Ph.D.

Kevin Sun, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the Department of Accounting and Taxation, has taught at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He has worked for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in China, and several hedge and mutual funds in the greater New York area. His research focuses on the effect of international accounting differences on stock markets around the world. He received his Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Colorado, Boulder.



Paul L. Walker, Ph.D.

Paul L. Walker, Ph.D, Full Professor, Department of Accounting and Taxation, and the School of Risk Management, earned his B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Texas, Arlington and his Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Dr. Walker has done extensive work in the field of risk and has trained both boards and executives around the world. He will hold the Zurich/Schiro Chair in Enterprise Risk Management.
