Financial Advisor
UBS Financial Services, Inc.
William Carmody completed his internship in the Fall of his
senior year with a wealth management team at Smith Barney in
Manhasset where he performed various functions, escalating in
responsibility throughout the semester.
"I began by updating the client database and familiarizing
myself with the systems and organizational structure. I also had
the opportunity to service clients over the phone and in the branch
with any problems or issues they were having. Finally I organized
seminars and financial education events to develop prospective
clients."
The team at Smith Barney eventually merged with UBS Financial
where William is currently working full time.
"The internship that I completed while at St. John's was a great
experience for me both professionally and personally. I was able to
gain a greater understanding of my prospective employment
opportunities and real world experience. For me the benefits
internship provided were priceless. The time and effort that I
invested lead to a job offer in an otherwise difficult job market.
The knowledge that I acquired while completing my internship would
provide a solid base for the beginning of my post-collegiate
career."
William encourages anyone who is considering an internship to
think of it as a bridge to their future. "The work, time, and
effort that you invest in an internship will surely pay dividends.
Not only will you develop skills and gain knowledge applicable to
your field of study, but the networking contacts and future job
opportunities that you can pursue are another great benefit. Hard
work does not go unrecognized, so make a commitment to perform your
internship to the very best of your abilities and you will not be
disappointed."
