The St. John’s School of Law Admissions Office, in conjunction
with the Black Law Students Association hosted its Second Annual
Pre-Law Day: Increasing Our Numbers, on Saturday, February 23,
2008. The Black Law Students Association created the Law Day last
year, as a proactive response to a national trend – a decline in
applications to law school from students of color.

The focus of the Minority Pre-Law Day is to increase the chances
of admission of prospective students of color by emphasizing the
importance of early strategic planning, understanding the highly
competitive nature of the law school admissions process, and
stressing the significance of academic preparedness. Individual
workshops on the admissions process, the LSAT, the
personal/diversity statement, and financial aid provided students
with practical advice and a student panel shared valuable insights
on life as a law student and navigating the admission process. A
successful alumnus, Kenneth Bunting, Class of 1988 provided an
informative and humorous look at his path from high school to
practicing attorney. Aspiring lawyers of color from colleges and
universities around the New York area attended and based upon their
responses, the event was a huge success!
