Merger

April 01, 2003

On May 31, 2001, St. John's University and The College of Insurance (TCI) officially closed their merger agreement, making many of the programs that had been offered at TCI a part of St. John's Peter J. Tobin College of Business (TCB). Under the agreement, the former TCI has been renamed the School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (SRM), and established as a separate discipline within the Tobin College of Business.

For over one hundred years, SRM has been a leader in preparing students for successful careers and leadership in the diverse world of risk management, insurance and financial services. Graduate and undergraduate degree programs, as well as professional education programs, are offered – providing the lifelong learning and continuing education necessary to remain current in this highly competitive environment.

The concluded merger enables the Tobin College of Business to expand its historically strong offerings in the field of business into the critical area of risk management, and to build executive and professional education for the future.

In pooling the resources, reputations and success of these fine institutions, the Tobin College of Business can offer exciting new capabilities in lifelong learning for students – across the dimensions of business practice.
