Scholarships

If you have an impressive academic record, St. John's will reward your efforts. Our selective Academic Scholarship Program recognizes academic achievement.

Whether you're an entering freshman or transfer student, you may qualify for one of our scholarships. St. John's also offers need-based aid to all students regardless of scholarship potential. In 2008-09, 95% of our students received more than $380 million in financial assistance through scholarships, loans, grants and work-study programs.

All academic scholarship recipients must complete a minimum of 24 credits and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

Freshmen
Presidential Scholarships
A limited number of these prestigious, full-tuition scholarships are offered to full-time students (12-18 credits per semester). Scholarships are awarded for four years of undergraduate study. Eligibility is based on overall strength of the academic pool.

Scholastic Excellence Scholarships
Students receive up to $20,000 a year for four years of undergraduate study. Eligibility is determined based on the overall strength of the academic pool.

Academic Achievement Award
Students receive up to $12,000 per year for four years of undergraduate study.  Eligibility is based on the overall strength of the academic pool.

Catholic Student Scholarship
St. John's has a special commitment to preparing Catholic students for ethical leadership. Our Catholic Student Scholarship (formerly the Catholic High School Scholarship) offers a limited number of awards (based on availability) to college-bound Catholic students regardless of the secondary school they attend. Awards range from $1,000 to $2,500. Eligible applicants must:

  • Be Roman Catholic.
  • Have at least a B average and combined SAT score of 1050 or more.
  • Graduate from high school by June 2010.
  • Submit a scholarship application (including essay) to our Office of Admission by Feb. 1, 2010.
  • File their completed FAFSA form by Feb. 15, 2010.

Ozanam Scholars Program
St. John’s University has created a bold new program that will provide a select group of scholars with a unique and innovative learning experience. The Ozanam Scholars Program is designed to allow students to work in small groups with dedicated faculty to contribute to solving real world problems in local, national and international communities. A cohort of Ozanam Scholars begins in freshman year with each student receiving up to a $10,000 scholarship renewable annually for the four-year program. Please be sure to have your Ozanam Scholars Program application submitted by Feb. 1, 2010.

Transfers
University Transfer Scholarship
Transfer students receive up to $10,000, depending on academic record. To be considered, transfer students must have earned a minimum of 24 credits from an accredited institution of higher learning.  Recipients must have an average GPA of over 3.0.  Eligibility is determined based on the overall strength of the academic pool.

NYPD Cadet Corps Scholarship
The College of Professional Studies at St. John’s University is proud to announce its partnership with the New York City Police Department to educate the future leaders of law enforcement. The NYPD Cadet program at St. John’s University is pleased to invite eligible candidates to apply for our Fall 2010 NYPD Cadet Corps Scholarship. Sophomore year you can receive $2,500 and junior and senior year awards of up to $10,000 with a matching grant of $10,000 from the NYPD Cadet Corps are available to eligible applicants.

Eligible applicants must:

  1. be a new transfer student entering St. John’s in the Fall of 2010
  2. be a New York City resident, and
  3. be willing to apply to the NYPD Cadet Corps in their sophomore year as they approach the completion of 45 credits.
  4. is only open to criminal justice and legal studies major.

Applicants must download the NYPD Cadet Corps Scholarship Application and submit the completed form by March 17, 2010.
