New York, NY - Approximately 200 people attended a cocktail reception recently at the Tavern on the Green in New York launching the creation of the Edwards & Angell, LLP, Leonard H. Minches Scholarship Fund at St. John's University School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science. The scholarship fund is named for Lenny Minches, a senior attorney with the Insurance and Reinsurance Department of Edwards & Angell and a pioneer in insurance company insolvency, passed away in 2002. To date, over $30,000 has been raised in the Fund for scholarships and the amount is still growing.
The scholarship will be awarded to a Risk Management and Insurance major at the School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science at the Tobin College of Business at St. John's University, who has achieved a 3.0 or better. Consistent with the St. John's University Mission, criteria used in determining the recipients is also based upon need and/or scholastic achievement.
Attending the reception were members of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners as well as attendees to its Summer Meeting.
