Milton Mollen

Milton Mollen received his L.L.B. cum laude from St. John’s School of Law in 1950. Currently Counsel at Herrick Feinstein LLP,  he began his career as a private practice attorney, but after two years embarked upon a commitment to public service that has remained as his focus even to the present day. Demonstrating an abiding love for the city and state of New York, he has at various times served as Chairman of the Housing and Redevelopment Board, Judge of the Criminal Court, Justice of the Supreme Court, Presiding Justice of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Criminal Justice of the City of New York and Chairman of the New York State Commission on Lobbying. In 1992 he was named Chairman of a Special Commission to investigate corruption within the New York City Police Department, which today is still known as the Mollen Commission. Continuing to champion the concept of integrity in both the public and private sector, he is Ethical Practices Counsel for the International Longshoremen’s Association and Federal Court Appointed  Monitor and Corruption Counsel for Local 282 of Teamsters International. He has received numerous honors and awards, including the Brooklyn Medical Center Founders Medal, the New York State Bar Association Award for Outstanding Judicial Contribution to the Criminal Justice System, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Office of the Corporation Counsel of the City of New York and the Governor’s Council on Law Enforcement Distinguished Service Award. St. John’s University awarded him a Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa, in 1978 and the School of Law presented him with the James Madison Award in 1990 and the Dean John J. Murphy Award in 1992.  He supports the mission and programs of alma mater through membership in The Loughlin Society. Tonight, in recognition of his outstanding legal career, his lifelong commitment to public service and on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of his graduation, St. John’s University is pleased and proud to present the Medal of Honor to Milton Mollen.
