to

Fioravante G. Perrotta

Fioravante G. Perrotta, a double alumnus of St. John’s University, received his B.A. summa cum laude from St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 1952 and his J.D. summa cum laude from St. John’s School of Law in 1955. He then began what would become an outstanding legal career in both the public and private sectors. His first post was as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division for the Southern District of New York. Four years later he was named Assistant Counsel to then- New York State Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller, followed by an appointment as Deputy Superintendent and General Counsel of the New York State Insurance Department.  From 1968-1970 he served as Finance Administrator of the City of New York, and as Commissioner of the New York State Insurance Fund from 1971-1977. In addition to his unmatched accomplishments in the public sector, he distinguished himself as a Senior Partner at Rogers & Wells (currently Clifford Chance), a private law firm in New York City.  He has also held directorships in a number of prestigious corporations, including the Sun Life Insurance & Annuity Company of New York, the Bankers Security Life Insurance Society, the Mutual of America Life Insurance Company, the Relia Star Life Insurance Company and Shalom Re, Ltd. A lifelong commitment to community service is reflected in his 23 year tenure as President of the Board of Trustees of the New York Foundling Hospital. Embodying the Vincentian ideals of caring and concern for others, he has established the Fioravante G. Perrotta Scholarship Fund to assist academically deserving students in the School of Law, and is also a member of The Loughlin Society, The McCallen Society, and the Founders Society, reserved for St. John’s most generous benefactors. A grateful University presented him with the Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award in 1995 and awarded him a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa in 2002, and the School of Law presented him with the Belson Medal in 2006. Tonight, on the 55th anniversary of his undergraduate graduation, St. John’s University pays tribute to a loyal and accomplished alumnus and, with admiration and affection, presents the Medal of Honor to Fioravante G. Perrotta.
