Presentation of the Pietas Medal to
Patricia Connell Shea
Patricia Connell Shea received her B.S. in Education from St. John’s School of Education in 1962. She then began what has been a lifetime of serving others. She started her career as a Social Worker at Angel Guardian Home. Later, she helped found Birthright on Long Island, a social service resource for pregnant women. In 1986 she established MOMMAS House, a home for unwed mothers and their babies. She has received numerous awards, including a United States Congressional Certificate of Appreciation, the Diocese of Rockville Centre PRO VITA Award, and the Long Island Volunteer Hall of Fame Founders Award. A grateful University presented her with the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Medal in 2003 and the President’s Medal in 2007. Tonight, in celebration of her extraordinary record of service and on the 50th anniversary of her graduation, St. John’s University proudly presents the Pietas Medal to Patricia Connell Shea.
