St. John’s University announced this month the election of four
new members to the University’s Board of Trustees. Lewis Rice Jr.,
Vice President for Global Security, Estee Lauder Companies;
Patricia C. Skarulis, Vice President and Chief Information Officer,
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center; William Janetschek, Jr.,
Chief Financial Officer and Partner, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and
Company; and Gregory P. Cozzubbo, C.M., Assistant Provincial,
Eastern Province, Congregation of the Mission in the U.S., were
elected to three-year terms.
Mr.
Rice, who graduated from St. John’s in 1974 with a degree in
criminal justice, leads a world-wide team of security executives
responsible for protecting the companies’ employees and products in
his role as Vice President for Global Security at Estee Lauder
Companies. Prior to this assignment, he had a twenty-six year
career with the Drug Enforcement Administration, which included a
position as Special Agent in Charge of the DEA office in New
York.
Serving on numerous boards and receiving accolades for his work
and commitment to New York City, Mr. Rice has been honored with the
Achievement Award from the National Organization of Black Law
Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). And, as a testament to his
commitment to the children of NYC, he served as chairman for the
Law Enforcement Explorers and was later elected Chairman Emeritus.
Mr. Rice also served on the Board of Governors at St. John’s
University and is a trustee of Hale House New York City.
Ms.
Skarulis currently oversees all computing and communications for
the clinical, research, and educational enterprise as Vice
President and Chief Information Officer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering
Cancer Center. Prior to joining Sloan Kettering, Ms. Skarulis
served in a similar capacity as Vice President and CIO at Rush
University Medical Center in Chicago where she was also an
Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Systems
Management.
She received her M.A. and B.A. in Mathematics from St. John’s
University and attended the Institute for Educational Management,
an executive program for higher education at Harvard. Her career in
academe included positions as Vice President for Information
Systems and Vice Chancellor at Duke University where she was also
Professor of the Practice of Computer Science; Director of
Administrative Systems at Princeton University; and Assistant
Director of Academic Computing at Rutgers University.
Mr.
Janetschek, a 1984 graduate of the College of Business
Administration at St. John’s, currently serves as chief financial
officer and partner at Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Company.
The Janetschek family has a long association with the University.
William Janetschek, Sr., graduated in 1963, and his son honored him
by establishing the William J. Janetschek, Sr. Scholarship Fund and
an endowed Vincentian Scholars Scholarship to assist an
academically qualified and deserving senior student at St. John’s.
Janetschek House, one of the student residences in the University’s
Founders Village, was also named for the senior Janetschek through
his son’s generosity.

Father Cozzubbo, C.M., currently serves as assistant provincial,
Eastern Province, Congregation of the Mission, the religious
community that sponsors St. John’s. Based in Philadelphia, he
assists the provincial in the daily business of the Eastern
Province.
Prior to his current assignment, Father Cozzubbo was director of
Chaplaincy Services for the Philadelphia Prison System.
Supervising a team of 12 chaplains, he offered counsel and support
and worked in conjunction with the Director of Volunteer Services
in training new volunteers in the prison system. His previous
affiliation with St. John’s was as a member of the Board of
Governors.
