Sr. Helen Flynn Scholarship

The Notre Dame College Alumnae Association Sister Helen Flynn Scholarship Fund was established to benefit close relatives of a Notre Dame alumna or an alumnus from the University’s Staten Island campus, a graduate of an un undergraduate program on St. John’s SI campus, or a former scholarship recipient. After serving a life of ministry, scholarship and intellectual challenge of the highest degree, Sister Helen Flynn’s remarkable faith and devotion to God, Gospel and community influenced all who came to know her. The scholarship was established with the belief that those who choose to study at Staten Island campus would do so in an environment conducive to Sister Helen Flynn’s ideals of service, education and faith.

Provisions and Requirements
Applicant must be an incoming freshman accepted into a three or four year undergraduate program at the Staten Island campus who is a close relative of (son, daughter, brother, sister nephew, niece, grandson, granddaughter or first cousin) a Notre Dame alumna or alumnus of a four year undergraduate program from the University’s Staten Island campus.

Basis
Applicant must be accepted to St. John’s University in a three or four year undergraduate program of study and will attend the Staten Island campus. The criteria used in determining the recipients shall be based upon financial need and/or scholastic achievement.

Upon Acceptance
Applicant must be available to attend the Notre Dame College Homecoming held on the Staten Island campus on Saturday, April 20, 2013.

Academic Aid
Minimum of $1,000

Length of Time
Four-year period provided that the recipient maintains a 3.0 or higher overall GPA.

Verification
The application must be completed by the student and include a recommendation from their sponsor, who must be a graduate of the SI campus of St. John’s or former Notre Dame College Alumnae.

Selection
The scholarship committee will review the applications and contact selected students by phone to schedule interview times. Each applicant is required to have the financial aid form on file in the Office of Student Financial Services of St. John’s University prior to March 1, 2013. This form may be obtained from the high school counselor.
