Student-to-student interactions are an important part of the SAA. Representing the Office of Alumni Relations, SAA representatives provide information to potential students about what life at St. John’s is all about. They also help new students feel at home even before arriving on campus, and lend a helping hand and friendly face to welcome them into the University family. Their presence is a constant reminder of the bond that exists between our students and alumni. Student Services programs include: • Open House –assisting in the admissions process by sharing their personal experiences with students considering admission to St. John’s. • Accepted Student Receptions – conducted both locally and at regional alumni chapters across the country, these receptions offer newly accepted students an opportunity to learn about St. John’s University from area alumni and current students prior to their first day on campus. • Accepted Student Day – a University-wide day of pride where current students, alumni and representatives from student organizations gather to welcome newly accepted students and their families to St. John’s. • Move-In Day – welcoming new residential students and assisting them as they move into their on-campus residences for the first time. • Commencement – greeting alumni and students who gather to celebrate commencement and marking the graduates’ transition in the St. John’s family from students to alumni. • CareerCenter SHARE Program – an opportunity for students to shadow alumni in their workplace during mid-semester and finals breaks as well as during winter and summer recesses. • Learning Communities – going outside of the classroom and being mentored by alumni within their places of employment. • Cap and Gown Distribution –congratulating and distributing gifts to graduating seniors picking up their academic regalia prior to commencement. • Senior Class Gift –Student Government, Inc. and senior class are introduced to philanthropy by working together to secure the participation of graduating seniors in contributing to the annual Senior Class Gift. • Activities Fairs – informing students of the benefits associated with SAA membership.
