Campus Enhancements

The Campaign transformed St. John’s and more importantly changed the landscape of all its campuses.  Here is just a snap-shot of the various facilities and enhancements to the University.

St. Thomas More Church
The majestic St. Thomas More Church on the Great Lawn of the Queens campus was funded by a magnanimous gift from John ’63C, ’66L, ’93HON and Anita Brennan. The Church, opened in 2004, is the first free-standing space dedicated to worship in the University’s history.

New Locations in Manhattan and on Long Island
St. John’s University was able to expand its presence in the New York Metropolitan area with the acquisition of locations in Manhattan and in Oakdale in Eastern Long Island.

The Residence Village
New to the Queens campus, the residence village consists of six modern residence halls for student living, athletic facilities, a “cyberlounge” and other appealing amenities.  The St. Vincent Stairs connect the residence village to the main campus.

Montgoris Dining Hall
Conveniently located within the residence village on the Queens campus, this architecturally-stunning dining facility is named for benefactor William ’67CBA, ’88HON and Peggy Montgoris ’68Ed.

DaSilva Academic Center
Opened in 2004, this 37,000-sq.-ft. new technology hub on the Staten Island campus was funded by Leon DaSilva ’99HON and named for his son, John ’80SVC. 

College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
New renovations to the student lounge were implemented thanks to a generous grant from CVS, while the Community Pharmacy Laboratory received technologically-enhanced equipment made possible by a grant from The Rite Aid Corporation.

Napoli Lecture Hall
Located in the School of Law, the Paul ‘92L and Marie ‘93L Kaiser Napoli Lecture Hall was upgraded with new technology and resources to provide students and faculty with all the modern amenities.

Belson Moot Court
Constructed in 2002, this technologically advanced courtroom includes stadium-style seating, ceiling mounted projectors, document cameras with videotaping and playback capabilities and a closed-circuit camera system which allows law students to observe the jury deliberation process.  The courtroom is named after benefactors Jerome ‘48L, ‘80HON and Maxine Belson ‘98 HON.

Taffner Field House
Opened in 2005, this 42,000-square-foot facility includes a variety of enhanced academic and recreational spaces for students, student-athletes and faculty and is named for benefactors Donald ’53C, ’89HON and Eleanor Taffner ’94HON.

Belson Stadium
This state-of-the-art, 3,000-seat stadium for soccer, situated on a raised platform with parking underneath, opened in 2003 and is named for the facility’s benefactors Jerome (’48L, ’80HON) and Maxine Belson (’98HON).

Carnesecca Arena
The home of Red Storm basketball, formerly named Alumni Hall, underwent extensive renovations and was re-named in honor of legendary men’s basketball coach Lou Carnesecca ‘50C, ‘60GEd, ‘00HON in 2004.

Taffner Athletic Field House
DaSilva Academic Center
