An expendable scholarship (award fund) can be established with a
minimum of $500. The fund does not accrue interest and can only be
awarded based upon the available balance. (For example, an
expendable scholarship with a balance of $500 could provide up to
$500 in assistance.)
Criteria
Expendable scholarships may include a number of criteria, however
please keep in mind that the more broadly defined the criteria is,
the easier it is to award. Here are a few ways to establish
criteria:
- by level (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior)
- by grade point average (e.g., minimum G.P.A. of 3.0)
- by school (e.g., St. John's College of Liberal Arts and
Sciences, The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, etc.)
- by major (e.g., English, math, finance, accounting)
- by program participation (e.g., Study Abroad, athletics)
Award process
Scholarship recipients are selected by the University's Office of
Financial Aid based on need and/or scholastic achievement and
according to the donor's wishes as stipulated in the Scholarship
Agreement.
Naming your scholarship
You may also choose to name your expendable funds for yourself or
in honor or memory of a loved one. Information about the donor or
person(s) for which the fund is named is included in the agreements
and given to the recipient(s).

"I can never thank my donor enough for what
he has done for me. The Carmelo and Gregoria
Zizza scholarship has done more than just pay
my term bill; it has ensured that I can
fulfill my potential as a student and has given
me the opportunity that I needed to elevate myself
in the world." – Joseph Antignani '07CPS
