The Carnesecca Golf Classic is the perfect way for alumni,
friends and supporters of St. John’s University to enjoy
a great day of golf on one of Long Island’s most beautiful courses
while honoring Hall of Fame Basketball Coach Lou Carnesecca. Coach
Carnesecca will be joined by a number of his former players and
professional basketball celebrities. Proceeds from this event are
used to support Red Storm Athletics.
Coach Carnesecca is a true New York icon, having led the St. John’s
University men’s basketball team to post-season berths in each of
his 24 seasons at the helm. He compiled an amazing record of 526
wins against only 200 losses, one of only a handful of NCAA
Division I coaches to reach the 500 victory mark. A member of the
Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, he was named BIG EAST Coach of
the Year three times and was chosen Metropolitan Area Coach of the
Year six times by the New York Basketball Writers Association.
Although he retired from coaching in 1992, he continues to remain
active within the St. John’s University community.
