Richard F. Chapdelaine ’84HON

Richard F. Chapdelaine ’84HON earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business from Niagara University in 1949. Immediately after graduation he began a remarkable career in the securities industry that lasted for more than five decades. After 17 years with the firm of J. J. Kenney he founded Chapdelaine and Co., later to evolve into The Chapdelaine Companies. He is a Knight of Malta and Knight of the Holy Sepulcher of the Roman Catholic Church. He was the 1990 Man of the Year for the Catholic Big Brothers and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Municipal Forum of New York in 2001.

Chapdelaine has served as a member of the Board of Trustees at both Niagara University and St. John’s University. In 1984 St. John’s conferred upon him an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science, and three years later he received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Niagara. In recognition of his lifetime commitment to the Vincentian ideals of caring and compassionate service, in 2004 a grateful University honored him with the prestigious Spirit of Service Award.
