Brunch and Mass End Glorious Weekend

June 16, 2008

A Mass held at St. Thomas More Church and a Sunday brunch drew Reunion Celebration Weekend 2008 to a grand close.

The Queens campus had been abuzz all weekend with alumni, their family and friends who returned to enjoy all of the many changes around campus and the activities planned to celebrate those who graduated in a year ending in “3’ and “8.” After the Mass, participants made their way, by trolley or on foot, to Montgoris Hall where an array of delicious dishes, tables decorated with flowers and lemon arrangements and soothing music awaited them.

Adrian Kerrigan, Vice President for Institutional Advancement welcomed attendees and reflected on how the busy world in which we live made the weekend and gathering all the more precious.  “It’s been an incredible few days,” he said. “It’s always great when alumni come back home to be with us.”

John P. Craine ’58C and his wife Mary T. Craine ’58Ed enjoyed the opportunity to return to the University where they first met. “We’ve had a good time,” Mrs. Craine said. “We renewed a lot of memories,” Mr. Craine said. Ann Marie Cangelosi ’68Ed was a member of the St. John’s University Coordinettes, a dance team which performed at basketball games and was hired by the New York Jets to perform on the sidelines. She said she enjoyed the event, as well as the 40th anniversary suite set up in the dorms and said the event motivated her to become more involved. “Maybe in the future I’ll be able to participate in more,” she said. “I certainly would like to come back in the off years when I’m not celebrating and hopefully I’ll make it for my 50th anniversary.”

University President Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M. congratulated all of those celebrating their graduation anniversaries and thanked attendees for returning home to alma mater. “We are very grateful to you for continuing to keep St. John’s a part of your life,” he said.
