Washington, DC Alumni Enjoy BBQ
October 01, 2008
A group of 30 St. John’s University alumni and friends gathered
at the home of Frank Odeh, '93P in Herndon, VA for a leisurely
barbecue on Saturday, September 27, 2008. Although it
threatened to rain outside, the members of the Washington, DC
Alumni Chapter and their guests remained in good spirits, as they
mingled together and shared fond memories of alma
mater.

Alumni enjoyed good food, conversation and a raffle during which
some in attendance won a St. John’s alumni sweatshirt, St. John’s
branded coasters and a wine opener set. Andrea T. Papa
'88SVC, Associate Director of Student Engagement and Regional
Programs, was present to welcome guests and spoke with some about
current news at St. John’s including the status of construction
projects like Founder’s Village (townhouses for student housing),
the new Paris location and the University Center/Academic Center (a
building dedicated for academic and student life).
Attendees were grateful for the chance to meet in a relaxing
environment. “This was a great way to enjoy a St. John's
event, without having to go into the city and be in a bar setting,”
shared Joy (Cuttita) Grubmeyer '65UC. “It was an opportunity
to be in a warm, intimate setting.”
Gary Glueckert '74CBA agreed adding, “…an outing like this was
great on a weekend, so people can plan and not get distracted with
work.” Overall guests were pleased and look forward to future
events.
The Washington, DC Alumni Chapter will also host the Insider’s
View of the Capital Program on October 22-24 to give St. John’s
students an understanding of careers in our nation’s capital.
