July 27, 2009

On Sunday, July 26, 2009 St. John’s University alumni and friends gathered for a day at Belmont Park to watch the exciting horse races. An elegant Sunday brunch was served in a private room overlooking the track at the exclusive Turf and Field Club, as alumni and friends relaxed and shared memories of their school days.

Many were appreciative of the opportunity to get together, citing this event as an ideal way to reunite. "This event is another great way for alumni to meet and reconnect with one another,” said Kevin Hawkins ’86SVC.

The group of more than 120 attendees was lively as the horse races commenced, enjoying their unparalleled view, taking advantage of a private betting window and cheering on the horses.

"This is my first time to Belmont Park and I love it—especially this room,” raved Lisanne Schatz ’86Ed. “This is a lot of fun and another way to meet old friends and get acquainted with new ones."

Co-sponsored by the Nassau County Alumni Chapter and The School of Education as part of its continuing Centennial Celebration, the success of the event has prompted members of the Nassau County Alumni Chapter to plan on running it again next year.
