Given the turbulent economic conditions that have impacted
nearly every segment of our society, it is vitally important for
everyone to acquire the most current information when planning for
a successful financial future. That’s exactly what happened as
alumni and faculty of St. John’s University gathered on Wednesday,
June 16, 2010 on the Staten Island campus for “Meet the Experts:
Financial and Estate Planning in a Time of Financial Crisis”.

Moderated by Frank E. Riggio ’80CBA, the audience received valuable
information from the following panelists:
Thomas E. Bonhag ’79MBA
John P. Clarke ’55CBA, ’57L
John M. Dalton ’66L
John J. Fleming ’68C, ’72MBA
Michael J. Maye ’87CBA
Prior to the start of the formal program panelists and guests
mingled at a casual breakfast where they got to know each other and
share information on a face-to-face basis.
Each of the panelists shared his particular area of expertise with
the audience, presenting information on a variety of topics that
included asset management, best practices in real estate, life
insurance, long term care, health insurance and charitable giving.
They were grateful for the opportunity to assist other members of
the St. John’s family.
“Lifelong learning is extremely important and I’m glad I got to
share what knowledge I could with our alumni,” said Fleming. “I
though the intimate setting was wonderful and I enjoyed being able
to spend some quality time with our alumni individually. It’s
important that people know all the options that are available to
them to prepare for their future. This is the first time that I’ve
been to the Staten Island campus and I’m impressed with how nice it
is.”
“I
believe our discussions were very effective,” agreed Dalton. “The
feedback from the alumni was great and they participated and
offered up some great topics and questions. It was a learning
experience for us all. The information discussed is very relevant
and important to the financial situation existing today.”
At the conclusion of the presentations the panelists remained to
speak with the alumni on an individual basis, responding to their
specific questions and concerns while providing direction for
future financial plans and decisions. Everyone appreciated the
opportunity to delve more deeply into topics that are both
important and timely.
“These presentations were both interesting and informative,”
remarked Ed Kelley ’85L. “We had some really well-rounded
discussions on general topics that were especially pertinent to
alumni from the baby boomer generation.”
Frank Ponterio ’75L was grateful for the chance to obtain knowledge
directly from professionals who also happened to be graduates of
the University. “I must say that I’m impressed with this entire
event,” he said. “Everyone on the panel was very professional and
knowledgeable, and the information presented will definitely be
helpful now and in the future.”
