The

St. John’s Women’s Basketball Team has had an incredible season, fueled by tenacious defense and explosive shooting.

Those attributes were on full display this past weekend as the No. 9 seeded Red Storm mounted an impressive second-half comeback to edge out No. 8 Texas Tech in a tight 55-50 match in the First Round of the Women’s NCAA Championships.  The squad has now advanced to the Round of 32 for the second straight year and will face No. 1 Stanford tonight at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

Led by the offensive firepower of sophomore Nadirah McKenith and junior Da’Shena Stevens, St. John’s earned an impressive 22-10 record this season, reaching the Big Dance for the third time under Head Women’s Basketball Coach Kim Barnes Arico. All three times, her Red storm advanced to the Round of 32.

Stanford earned a No. 1 seed thanks to its impressive 30-2 record and will prove a tough challenge for the Johnnies. But the Red Storm has been resilient all year, posting close and gritty wins over the likes of Georgetown, Pittsburgh and Villanova.

Be sure to catch the action tonight at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN2! Root on your Johnnies as they look to write another chapter in what they hope will be a Cinderella story.
