Jeffrey C. Kinkley, Ph.D., Professor of
History at St. John’s University, has been invited to serve on
a national selection committee that screens U.S. students who apply
for Fulbright Scholarships to
pursue research and teaching in the People’s Republic of
China.
This is the third time the Institute
of International Education has invited Dr. Kinkley to join such
a committee. The Institute is an independent, not-for-profit
organization that promotes stronger cultural relations between the
U.S. and other nations through educational exchange and training
programs.
"There are unprecedented opportunities for funding," Dr, Kinkley
said. "The potential boost to future Sino-US relations is
great."
He added, "It's inspirational to see the creative projects
conceived these days by younger scholars. It rejuvenates all of us
who oversee and ratify this research."
The recipient of a 2010 John
Guggenheim Fellowship, Dr. Kinkley specializes in the
intellectual and literary history of 20th-century China. At St.
John’s, he teaches World and East Asian History as well as Modern
Chinese History, Literature and Film .
He has received grants from the American Council of Learned
Societies, the National Endowment
for the Humanities and the
Committee on Scholarly Communication with China. A member of
editorial boards for varied scholarly journals, he has authored
three monographs published by Stanford University Press.
In addition, Dr. Kinkley has edited, co-edited, and translated six
books on Chinese history and literature some of which have Chinese
and bilingual editions. Currently he is writing a book on recent
epic Chinese historical novels and their dystopian visions of
modern history.
