St. John’s University participated in a nationwide tribute at
Noon (EST) today to honor the fallen victims of the Virginia Tech
tragedy observed with the ringing of the St. Thomas More church
bells at the University’s Queens Campus.
Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M. extended his sympathy and
condolences to the Virginia Tech community in a letter sent to the
University earlier today.
“The tragedy that occurred on the Virginia Tech campus earlier
this week has affected all of us at St. John’s University,”
Rev. Harrington, C.M. said. “We extend our heartfelt thoughts and
prayers to the victims, their families and the entire community at
Virginia Tech. Today the State of Virginia has declared a day of
mourning and we ask that all members of our University community
join in the tribute.”
Several hundred St. John’s University students participated in
the tribute today at the Queens and Staten Island campuses. In
addition, commemorative services for the victims and families of
the Virginia Tech community were also held on Wednesday (April 18)
and Thursday (April 19) at both University locations.
