University to thank Commissioners,
First Responders of NYPD, FDNY, OEM and DSNY
St.
John’s University will welcome members of the New York City Police,
Fire and Sanitation departments, as well as the New York City
Office of Emergency Management to its Men’s Basketball game versus
Big East rival Marquette on Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m.
During “First Responders Day,”
senior administrators from St. John’s will make a formal
presentation at center court during halftime to thank the NYPD,
FDNY, DSNY and OEM for the unyielding service by the agencies to
protect our great city.
The University will laud their
most recent heroics during the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, and
along with all New Yorkers, will never forget their ‘Call to
Action’ during the 9/11 tragedy. It is with this in mind that St.
John’s acknowledges and appreciates all that they do for our
University community and citizens in the New York and Metropolitan
Area.
“St.
John’s is thrilled to have representatives from New York City’s
four major service agencies and their heroic departments join us
for First Responders Day. We felt this opportunity was long overdue
as we join with our fans to thank the NYPD, FDNY, OEM and DSNY for
their tireless efforts in keeping New Yorkers safe each and every
day,” said Martha Hirst, Executive Vice President and Chief
Operating Officer. “We value our partnerships with these critical
agencies and look forward to a wonderful afternoon of fun and
exciting college basketball for all to enjoy.”
Thousands of tickets have been
distributed for use by these agencies as St. John’s expects a
boisterous home crowd for their final regular season game of the
year against BIG EAST Conference opponent and top ranked Marquette
University. The game will be broadcast nationally on
ESPN/ESPN2.
