Dedication and Blessing of the Helen and Hugh L. Carey Residence Hall Photo Gallery

St. John’s University dedicated one of its six residence halls to Hon. Hugh L. Carey (‘42C, ’51L) and his late wife Helen on November 23, 2004.

The former two-term Governor of New York was honored in a ceremony attended by family, friends and members of the University community.  An alumnus of St. John's University and the School of Law, Gov. Carey received the Medal of Honor in 1992 and the Spirit of Service award in 2000.

“Hugh has been extremely generous to St. John's University with his time, energy and continued support,” said Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M., President of St. John’s University.  “It is an honor to recognize a man who has accomplished so much, while continuously supporting his alma mater in achieving its goal of expansion.”
