What To Bring & What Not to Bring

You are about to move into a new home so of course you will need to bring necessities such as clothing and toiletries, but you will also probably want to bring along a few items to make your stay in campus housing more comfortable and enjoyable. We hope these lists of what to bring and what NOT to bring will help you in making decisions on what to pack. As you are gathering your items, keep in mind that you will have roommates and/or suitemates who will also be bringing a carload of belongings. Please refer to the Residence Life handbook for clarification on any items.

PLEASE NOTE: Bedrooms are designed for ONE television and ONE 4.0 cubic feet refrigerator!

Things you CAN bring:

  • Linens/blankets (Standard Twin)
  • Pillows
  • Towels
  • Toiletries
  • Toilet paper and paper towels
  • Laundry detergent
  • Laundry basket or bag
  • Cleaning supplies (mop, broom, wipes)
  • Garbage can
  • Hangers
  • Area rug
  • Dishes/Utensils
  • Refrigerator (4.0 cubic feet or less)
  • Television/DVD
  • Stereo/alarm clock
  • Computer/Laptop accessories
  • Desk lamp
  • School supplies
  • Message board
  • Table top ironing board/Iron (with automatic shut off)
  • Extension cord/Power strip (with surge protector)
  • Flashlight/Batteries
  • Medicine Cabinet Items/First Aid Kit
  • Renter's Insurance


Things you CANNOT bring:

  • Weapons of any kind (including items for decorative purposes)
  • Alcohol/Drug Paraphernalia (including items for decorative purposes such as shot glasses, bottles, etc..)
  • Space Heaters of any kind
  • Pets of any kind
  • Weights heavier than 15 pounds
  • Electric blankets
  • Speakers (DJ Equipment)
  • Hot plates
  • Halogen Lamps and Octopus Style Lamps
  • Candles, oil lamps, incense
  • Toaster/Toaster ovens (unless living in an apartment)
  • Refrigerator larger than 4.0 cubic feet
  • Cordless telephone/Answering Machine
  • Excessively large storage
  • Non-university furniture/mattresses
  • Wireless routers
  • Grills, Propane, or any type of liquid gas tanks
