LEADing Through Service

National Volunteer Week is April 11 – 16, 2011

Leading through Service seeks to create socially responsible and civic-engaged leaders. Our philosophy is based on Robert Greenleaf’s Ten Characteristics of a Servant Leader: listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of others, and building community.  By offering our students the opportunity to serve through local, national and international service experiences, they understand our Vincentian Mission and what it means to be a servant leader at St. John’s University. We combine indirect and direct service opportunities with guided reflection in an effort to create an experience that can change the way one views his/her leadership role. Through service and leadership development, we are creating the next generation of leaders who will serve our city, our country, and the global community.
