Celebrate Peace Week

In the spirit of Lent and to support social justice around the globe, Campus Ministry announces exciting programs to promote our annual Peace Week celebration (Queens campus), March 25–31.

This year’s theme is “To Sow Love.” The Peace Week Committee chose it to suggest “planting seeds” of hope, respect and love.

Monday, March 26 –Wednesday, March 28

The Tunnel of Oppression
9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Organization Lounge, D’Angelo Center
The Tunnel of Oppression is an opportunity for students, classes and organizations —  individually or together — to learn about oppression, teach others and reflect on moral and spiritual questions posed by these issues.

Monday, March 26

Monday Night Rosary
8–8:30 p.m.
St. Thomas More Church
Join us in our prayer for peace, as we recite the Holy Rosary and reflect.
  
Heroes of our Faith, St. Francis of Assisi
8:30–10 p.m.
St. Thomas More Church
Come and learn more about the famous Peace Prayer and how it can change our lives and our world. This immediately follows the Rosary.

Tuesday, March 27

Free Hug Campaign: All You Need Is LOVE!
All Day
St. Augustine Hall (Library) and D’Angelo Center
Want a free hug? Students for Global Justice will give them out all day in front of the Library, D’Angelo Center and all over campus. Look for the signs because “All we need is LOVE!” To become a free-hugger, visit www.stjohns.edu/peaceweek.

Wednesday, March 28

“CRUCIFIED: A Journey for Justice”: Stations of the Cross

A walk through the Stations of the Cross, experienced in terms of social justice and   other current global issues.

Thursday, March 29

“Shout! The Peace Concert”
7–10 p.m.
Organization Lounge, D’Angelo Center

Our Peace Week Concert is an opportunity for students to gather in celebration of God-given gifts, including music, poetry and a spirit of activism. Saturday, March 31

“Dodge a Ball, Not Peace”: Dodgeball Tournament   
Noon–4 p.m.
Taffner Field House
Join the Ozanam Scholars as they host an event that directly affects lives across the globe. We invite you to create a team and join us in a dodgeball tournament. If you win, you may send the money to a charity that you choose from our list. Visit us at www.stjohns.edu/peaceweek.
