Reuse & Recycle

  • Use the desk-side recycling containers located at each workstation for mixed paper of all types.
  • Use the plastic, metal, glass recycle containers located in corridors and office suites.
  • Recycle printer ink cartridges through pickup and drop-off service offered by office of Printing & Distribution.

Reduce

  • Copy and print jobs should be double sided and save waste paper printed on one side for drafts, scratch notes, or other purposes. 
  • Faxes received and routed should be done electronically when possible. 
  • Use on-line information sources to avoid printing and filing. 
  • Purchase / lease office equipment with EnergyStar label.
  • Minimize use of throw-away lunch containers, drinking cups and utensils.
  • Use pitchers of tap water rather than bottle water for meeting refreshments.
  • Inquire about the installation of filtered / tempered tap water system in lieu of dispensed bottled water.
  • Bring your own mug to use for water, coffee, tea during the day.
  • Turn off computers, printers and copy machines at the end of each day.
  • Turn off lights for times you are out of the office for more than 30 minutes... 
  • Close windows and report overheating /cooling problems to Facilities office.
  • Make certain that computer monitors use stand-by mode.
  • Reduce the need for business travel through teleconferencing and other strategies.
  • Commute to work by public transportation, car-pooling or van-pooling when possible.

Re-buy 

  • Purchase standard copy paper with 30% post-consumer recycled content.
  • Purchase letterhead, envelopes, legal pads and paper towels with 100% post consumer content.
