St. John’s University President Urges
Graduates to be “Bearers of Hope” at 138th Commencement Exercises
in Queens
Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M., President of St. John’s
University, welcomed a crowd of more than 16,000 to the 138th
Commencement Ceremony at the University’s Queens Campus earlier
today and bestowed honorary degrees to Sr. Anthony Barczykowski,
D.C. and Irving Burgie.
The two-hour ceremony was filled with pomp and circumstance and
concluded with traditional cap throwing, bursts of streamers and a
ticker tape celebration as the parade of graduates walked across
the Great Lawn of the Queens Campus for the first time as alumni of
St. John’s University.

Dana Tyler Delivers Commencement Address to More Than 2,500 at St.
John’s University’s Staten Island Campus
More than 2,500 faculty, family and friends along with 357
graduates assembled on a bright, sunny day on the Great Lawn of the
Grymes Hill campus for today’s early morning graduation
ceremony.
WCBS-TV news anchor Dana Tyler gave the
Commencement Address to the Class of 2008 and received an Honorary
Doctor of Letters Degree as part of St. John’s University’s
Commencement Ceremony today at the school’s Staten Island Campus.
Sharing the stage with Ms. Tyler was Rev. Vincent J. O’Malley,
C.M., who received an Honorary Doctor of Sacred Theology Degree
from St. John’s University President, Rev. Donald J. Harrington,
C.M.

Celebrates 2008 Commencement before More Than 2,000 in
Queens
St. John’s School of Law celebrated its Commencement Exercises
before more than 2,000 in Carnesecca Arena on the University’s
Queens campus on June 1. Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M., President
of St. John’s University conferred degrees to 280 law graduates
(265 J.D. and 10 L.L.M) as well as honoris causa, the degree of
Doctor of Laws to both the Honorable Judith S. Kaye, Chief Judge of
the State of New York and the Honorable Raymond J. Dearie, Chief
Judge of the United States Court for the Eastern District of New
York.
