The Kappa Eta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor
Society in Education at the St. John’s Queens Campus, is proud to
announce the 2009-2011 Achieving Chapter Excellence (ACE) Award
along with the Staten Island’s Alpha Beta Gamma Chapter of Kappa
Delta Pi. This is the second consecutive ACE award for the Queens
Chapter. The Kappa Eta Chapter was chosen as one of the top 25
among 582 chapters worldwide. Kappa Delta Pi presents the award
every biennium only to those Chapters that demonstrate excellence
and dedication to the ideas of Kappa Delta Pi. Kappa Eta has
excelled in the areas of academics, service, events and
programming, professional development, leadership and many
more.
Members of the Kappa Eta – Kappa Delta Pi executive board will
also be presenting a research-based presentation at the 48th
Biennial Convocation in Indianapolis, Indiana this November. Kappa
Eta is also being considered for the ACE of ACE award, to be
awarded at the closing banquet.
Kappa Delta Pi is an International Honor Society that is
committed to recognizing excellence and fostering mutual
cooperation, support, and professional growth for educational
professionals. To qualify for membership an undergraduate student
must have a 3.25 grade point average and a graduate student must
have 3.50. The Kappa Eta Chapter actively lives out the Vincentian
mission of St. John’s University by continually volunteering in
events that service inner-city youth, the homeless, and the
community at large. This year, Kappa Eta coordinated “Light
It Up Blue”
http://www.stjohns.edu/view.aspx?path=/academics/undergraduate/education/currentevents/highlights/2011/light_it_up_blue_autism_speaks
with Student Engagement and Campus Ministry to raise awareness
about Autism. The three-day event consisted of breakfast with blue
items, arts and crafts with PS 177, a soccer clinic with the St.
John’s Women’s Soccer team, a candle light vigil and mothers with
children with Autism as guest speakers. Kappa Eta provides
professional development events so that members, pre-service
teachers, and those already in the field can receive additional
workshops, conferences, and assemblies. The Kappa Eta family
will continue to strive for excellence, as it has added 86 new
members to live out its mission.
We would like to thank everyone who has made this year a special
one and we look forward to striving for the ACE of the ACE.
