
Italian Celebration Dinner
Fred Gardaphe
The Italian Celebration dinner is the formal celebration of Italian
heritage. The dinner highlights achievements of prominent
Italian-Americans in the community, as well as Italian-American
students at the university.
Fred Gardaphe is a distinguished Professor of English and Italian
American studies at Queens College and the John D. Calandra Italian
American Institute of the City University of New York. He
directs the Italian American Studies Program at Queens
College. His organization services includes: Modern Language
Association Delegate Assembly 2007-present; past-president of
MELUS: The Society for the Study of Multi Ethnic Literature of the
United States (2007-2009 and 2003-2006 and the American Italian
Historical Association, 1997-2000. He is past director of Stony
Brook University’s American and Italian/American Studies programs.
His books include Italian Signs, American Streets: The
Evolution of Italian American Narrative,Dagoes Read:
Tradition and the Italian/American Writer, Moustache Pete
is Dead!, Leaving Little Italy, and From Wiseguys
to Wise Men: Masculinities and the Italian American Gangster.
He is co-founding/co-editor of VIA: Voices in Italian Americana and
editor of the Italian American Culture Series of SUNY
