Speakers: Marshall Curry & Bob Hennelly
This year marks 10 years since the 2002 Newark Mayoral race
between then Mayor Sharpe James and then Council Member Corey
Booker. As part of the University’s annual civic-engagement
initiative, PARTICIPATE’12 will host a documentary viewing and
discussion that examines the 2002 Newark Mayoral election and
explores deeper socio-political issues of: race, ethics and
campaigning in modern urban politics.
This learning event features a public viewing of the documentary
Street Fight immediately followed by a panel discussion featuring
award-winning filmmaker Marshall Curry and WNYC Radio award-winning
New Jesery political/investigative journalist, Bob Hennelly. The
event will conclude with audience Q&A. Street Fight was a
2005 Academy Award Nominee for Best Documentary.
